Back in August of 2013, Fullbright Games made quite the splash with their very first full length game Gone Home. We here at AOL believe Gone Home to be an absolute masterpiece, and one of the greatest accomplishments in gaming. If you've never played Gone Home, or have never heard of it, just go download it and play it. When we look back on the crop of indie titles that started a new wave of game design, Gone Home will be a bright spot in it, and that certainly makes The Fullbright Company one of the most interesting developers, indie or otherwise, working in the entire industry.
Their follow-up to Gone Home, the space set Tacoma, was announced a few years back during the 2014 Game Awards, and since then we've been eagerly anticipating just what Fullbright would be bringing to the table, and if they would be able to top what came before.
Well, it looks like we'll have to wait a little longer, unfortunately. And we are beyond destroyed by this news.
As announced by Fullbright themselves in an email newsletter yesterday morning, Tacoma has slipped out of its general 2016 release date and is now aiming for a Spring 2017 bow instead. "After we did our big unveiling last summer we sent out a playtest build to a bunch of fellow developers we trust, took a long hard look at their feedback and our own feelings on where we were at, and decided to reexamine and rework a number of the core assumptions we'd held about the game," was the excuse from Fullbright provided in the official statement. As far as delay excuses that I've read though, this is certainly one of the better ones.
In any case, we're dying to play this game whenever it arrives, whenever that ultimately ends up being. If it needs a little more time to cook in the oven, then so be it. For now, we have this wicked cool first 8 minutes of gameplay to tie us over for the next...like twelve months? Okay, now I'm kind of bummed again. I'm going to stop crying and try to collect myself now.
