Back in December, Telltale surprised pretty much everyone by unveiling their newest project, a multi-episode series focused on one of the most popular superheroes in the world: Batman. We simply had no idea that Telltale was working on the project - no rumors, no discussions, nothing. One day we simply lived in a world in which we had no knowledge of a Telltale Batman game, and the next day we all quickly added it to our most anticipated games of 2016 list. That's pretty cool, if you ask me.
But with the game now outed to the public, it was about time that Telltale dropped some details about the highly awaited episodic adventure. And last week during a panel at SXSW they did just that, announcing not only when we will be seeing the game, but some (very) brief details about it.
But first the simple stuff. According to Telltale's Job Stauffer during the panel, Batman will be arriving sometime this summer. Yeah it's not a lot to go on, but this is Telltale we are talking about - they won't announce an actual launch date until like a week before it comes out. And that will likely be their method for actual promotional material (screenshots, full trailers, etc.), as well, though Stauffer did go into detail on a few things we can expect in the game.
According to him, the game will allow plays to play as both the Caped Crusader AND his alter ego Bruce Wayne, often giving player a choice in which persona to put on. As is the case for Telltale, the choice will come with consequences either way, with Wayne obviously going into situations very differently than Batman would. That alone makes for a fascinating approach to the character, and a cool concept for Telltale to play around with. Also cool is the fact that Telltale will be committing to an M rating for the game, explaining that "It'll feel almost like an R-rated movie."` Finally, Telltale confirmed appearances from such characters as Alfred Pennyworth, Vicki Vale, James Gordon, and Renee Montoya. As for the villains of the game, Telltale is holding the identity of all of them close to the chest - but considering the massive ensembles they usually deal with, I would expect quite a few of them to pop up.
In any case, we couldn't be more excited to get our hands on the game, and to see just what Telltale will bring to The Dark Knight mythology. As always from Telltale, expect great things For now, if you want to check out more details straight from the SXSW panel, you can check out the thing in its entirety below.
