What's old is new again. BioShock is getting touched up for packaged re-release that brings all three of 2K's acclaimed first-person adventures to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One for the first time.
It's called BioShock: The Collection and it bundles together BioShock , BioShock 2 and BioShock Infinite - plus all their assorted add-ons - in a $60 package. The only thing missing is the online multiplayer component of BioShock 2 , but that wasn't great to begin with so no huge loss.
The original BioShock is getting a remaster to make it look a little shinier for the current-generation consoles. It also includes a developer commentary track featuring series creator Ken Levine and animation lead Shawn Robertson, a behind the scenes "Museum of Orphaned Concepts" bonus and Challenge Rooms, which give players BioShock -inspired tasks to complete outside the story.
BioShock 2 is also pegged for a remaster since it's old enough to merit one. The Collection 's second game also includes the much-loved Minerva's Den story add-on - the design of which was led by Gone Home creator Steve Gaynor - and the Protector Trials add-on, which lets players suit up as one of the game's fearsome Big Daddys.
BioShock Infinite is new enough to not require a remaster - it came out in 2013 - but you still get all the its add-ons. This includes parts one and two of Burial at Sea , a noir-inspired adventure that heads back to Rapture, the site of the first game. You also get the bite-sized challenges of the Clash in the Clouds add-on and an assortment of bonus gear in story mode with the Columbia's Finest Pack : 500 Silver Eagles ( Infinite 's currency), five lock picks, six Gear upgrades and two weapon upgrades.
The whole $60 package comes to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Sept. 13 in the U.S., with subsequent releases on Sept. 15 in Australia and Sept. 16 internationally. BioShock: The Collection is also coming to PC, with the main benefits being the remastered first two games and the bundle pricing.
