Star Wars Breakout Potentially Up For Lead Role in 'Raider' Adventure Movie, And Other Headlines from 1979

If you haven't heard, Hollywood is going to give it another go at the whole Tomb Raider movie thing. This time based on the rebooted (and better IMHO) take on the character, the new Tomb Raider is being spearheaded by Warner Bros, and has director Roar Uthaug (The Wave) currently attached. But of course the key to a great Tomb Raider film is the person playing legendary heroine Lara Croft.

Of course that's not quite true considering how Angelina Jolie circa 2001 was PERFECT casting for the role, and yet still couldn't help that movie not be a total dumpster fire, but still though - finding a good Lara is an important thing for the viability of this video game movie adaptation, and WB is apparently looking at a pretty big name to take the mantle: none other than Star Wars: The Force Awakens' star Daisy Ridley.

Now Deadline cautions that none of these conversations about getting Ridley in the role have amounted to anything, and that she is just one of the many names being touted around for the project. Of course if Ridley wants to do it, she'll likely get to do it - being the breakout star of the biggest domestic release of all time will probably give you that power.

And, personally, I believe this is just as perfect a casting for the new, younger Lara as Jolie was for the older, silent, more boring one. I was quite taken by Daisy Ridley's charm in The Force Awakens, and it's not hard at all to see her as young Lara Croft (the accent at least is spot-on, right?). Arguably this project isn't quite piquing me due to the director attached (a relative newcomer, which can work for or against the film), but casting Ridley in the main role would certainly get me more interested than before. Sorry Margot Robbie, move to the side - a new preferred pick for this role has emerged.

Okay Robbie, fine, come back. Maybe you can play her twin sister Mora Croft or something.
